James "Whitey" Bulger, the former head of Boston's Winter Hill Gang, evaded police for 16 years before being arrested with girlfriend Catherine Greig in Santa Monica, California, in 2011.

Beginning in 1975, Bulger served as an informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).As a result, the Bureau largely ignored his organization in exchange for information about the inner workings of the Italian American Patriarca crime family. Beginning in 1997, the New England media exposed criminal actions by federal, state, and local law enforcement officials tied to Bulger. For the FBI especially, this has caused great embarrassment. On December 23, 1994, after being tipped off by his former FBI handler about a pending indictment under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), Bulger fled Boston and went into hiding. For 16 years, he remained at large. For 12 of those years, Bulger was prominently listed on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

Boston, Marathon, Bombing,Trial,case,court, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
On April 15 a terror attack on one of the world’s biggest marathons sent shockwaves throughout the world.

It was arguably the biggest terrorist atrocity to hit sport in the West since the 1972 Munich Olympics, when 11 Israeli athletes and a German policeman were murdered by Palestinian militants.

Nearly two hours after the elite athletes had completed the Boston Marathon, Chechen brothers and US residents Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev detonated home-made pressure-cooker bombs at the finish line, in an attempt to inflict maximum damage both to spectators and runners.

The bombings killed three people and reportedly injured as many as 264 others.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in the shootings with the police.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is accused of killing three people and injuring hundreds more in a bombing that shook Boston and US. For now Dzhokhar remains in custody awaiting trial as prosecutors decide whether to pursue the death penalty, with a decision expected in the New Year.
